Maurice Guillaume – Should he be considered a Sculptor of Sports or Animals?
Guillaume alternates between two subjects, fascinated as he was, by athletes as well as our friends from the animal kingdom. The detail that links these two predilections together is the body, and the movement that brings that body to life. Maurice Guillaume is indeed a master of depicting movement.
Upon graduating from the Beaux-Arts Academy in Paris, he was apprenticed to the master sculptors René Iché and Louis Leygue. He then started restoring cathedral statuary, all the while constructing his own personal style.
